HUNTERS debutant Kevin Appo says running out tomorrow for his first Q-Cup game will be a proud moment for his father Jackson who always wanted one of his sons to do well in rugby league.
“My father Jackson was a former team manager for the Goroka Lahanis and he’s always wanted one of his sons to one day to do well in rugby league so he’ll be happy when I play my first game for the Hunters,” the 20-year-old said.
The Appo clan will no doubt be crowded around a TV set in East Goroka when the Hunters play the Easts Tigers in Brisbane.
The second-rower of mixed Eastern Highlands and Chimbu parentage became Hunter No.75 along with Shane Haro (74), Epel Kapinias (76) and Woods Kawage (77) when coach Michael Marum announced his side on Tuesday.
The second year Science Biology student (UPNG) said he came from a big family and was happy to be the first six sons to be playing at a high level.
“I’m the first in my family to come this far in sport so I just want to make them proud and play well,” Appo.
