A LAYMAN who was ordained as a priest in Jiwaka on Saturday has been told to put his calling before anything else.
Deacon Peter Kagl was ordained by Mt Hagen Archbishop Douglas Young at the Banz Catholic Mission.
Young was joined by bishops, priests and deacons to witness the event.
Hundreds of people from the two dioceses in Jiwaka and Western Highlands attended.
Young described the event as a milestone achievement for the Catholic Church.
Young said priesthood work was very important in the development of the church. He said priests represented Christ.
“They work towards bringing people together in the church and ensure that people remain holy in order to have mutual relationship with God,” he said.
Young urged Kagl to fully devote his life to the work of God.
“To become God’s disciple is not an easy thing,’’ he said.
“Forget about yourself, family, and society and carry the cross.’’
He told him not to be involved in any situation that would compromise his position.
“Always act in the most spiritual trademark ways. Be a role model in the church and lead the people,” he said.
He said young people who intended to become God’s servant were easily tempted.
“It is a very challenging time that we are in as sin is reaching its peak,” he said.
