Are we being used as guinea pigs?

Letters, Normal

I REFER to a paid advertisement by Nautilus in The National (Aug 20).
The community is against Nautilus and its advert on the Solwara 1 project is a contradiction.
All communities are not allowing Nautilus’ officers to step into their villages for awareness or anything.
When the communities compare benefits from this mine to their current way of life, they feel vulnerable.
All our marine life which sustained us since ancestral times will be depleted.
Does the wealth of PNG really go to the communities’ benefit?
We hope the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) and the government will weigh the pros and cons.
Is it that hard to find new minerals on the land?
Nautilus must tell the truth.
Are we being used as guinea pigs for this new technology, seafloor mining?
While other PNG citizens and the world are with us, our government and MRA are rushing headlong into the unknown for their personal gains.
