ARMED men robbed a Chinese-owned shop in Lae of an undisclosed amount of money yesterday.

Police said the gang walked into the shop in Top Town between 8am and 9am, held up the workers and escaped with the money.

Lae police operations commander Fred Kaiwa said the robbers had used a Lae-Madang PMV bus to commit the crime.

Kaiwa said police were notified and gave chase but the gang sped to the Bumbu settlement and abandoned the bus there before fleeing on foot with their loot.

Witnesses at the scene said at least two guns were used to commit the crime which lasted about five

minutes.

Kaiwa said the owner of the bus would be questioned by police.

“We want to know how the gang used his bus to commit the crime,” Kaiwa said.

“The leaders in this settlement have a good working relationship with us (police) so we are working with them to identify the people involved.”

Kaiwa said full details of the incident would be released once he was briefed by his investigators.
