EAST New Britain police have apprehended a male suspect for threatening to shoot a local businessman in Kokopo recently.

Provincial police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie Jnr said the police response unit was alerted after the suspect threatened to shoot the businessman on Saturday.

When police arrived at the scene at Kenabot, the suspect fled on foot. A thorough search of the area was done but the suspect must have taken refuge in a nearby residence.

A few minutes after police left, the suspect came back with a shotgun and went to the same location and threatened the neighbours, allegedly assaulted one of them with the butt of the gun and smashed the windscreens of two vehicles.  It was also reported that the suspect fired a shot.

Police attended to the scene again and maintained patrol in the Kenabot residential area until they apprehended the suspect

The suspect was alleged to have been involved in two previous armed robberies in Kokopo.

His home was also searched and police confiscated a homemade gun and other illegal items.

The factory made shotgun is yet to be located.
