Army sergeant graduates

SERGEANT Waii Yogol, a father of four, dedicated the bachelor in business management degree he graduated with from the University of PNG to his hardworking wife Rosemary.
“My biggest thanks to my family, especially my wife who supported me and my kids. She made sure that the kids had their bus fare every morning. She made sure that I had breakfast and bus fare to go to school,” he said.
Sgt Yogol, 48 from Chuave in Chimbu, has four children.
One is a nurse, one is training to be a soldier and two are attending secondary school.
He is attached with the Defence Force air transport wing.
“Being the sole breadwinner in the family, and then taking up studies, was very stressful – a tough challenge for me,” he said.
“My kids are in school and my wife doesn’t have a fulltime job. It was a challenge. But if you have the will, you will achieve.”
He decided to pursue the degree programme because he wanted to be a good public policy manager.
“Management is the biggest issue we have. So I pursued business management majoring in public policy,” Sgt Yogol said.
“We need good public policy managers in the country to run Government programmes. So I took this course.”
He thanked the Australia National University for establishing the school at UPNG, now run by the school of business management.
