AROMA Coast is set to host its annual junior rugby league tournament at Pelagai village, Central, in the New Year.
Tournament coordinator Geno Wari told The National yesterday that the event was a great avenue to keep youths away from bad habits during the school holidays.
He said all the villages along the coast would each field a team in the Jan 10-17 tournament.
“The Aroma Coast junior rugby league tournament will be celebrating its 11th anniversary since its inception in 2010,” the tournament coordinator said.
“All the villages have shown great interest to participate and we are anticipating an entertaining rugby league fest.
“The youth population is big in the villages, so the tournament is a great way for them to socialise and have fun through rugby league during the festive season.
“We have seen many new teams join in the past couple of years and we believe there will be more teams for the 2022 tournament.”
Wari said Chris Enara, a former coach of the one-time Port Moresby intercity side, Brian Bell Bulldogs, is among the organisers of the tournament.
“Thanks to Aroma Coast Rugby League director Chris Enara for his contributions to stage the tournament,” he said.
“We are also grateful for the support of Abau MP Sir Puka Temu.
“He is the major sponsor of the tournament and we thank him for supporting junior rugby league along the Aroma Coast.”
