IJIVITARI MP David Arore plans to introduce a bill in parliament to punish parents who fail to send their children to school.

He told The National in Port Moresby yesterday that the government had offered free education to children in PNG to be educated and have a better future.

“I want to warn parents in the country that I will be pushing for an amendment in the law to hold parents responsible for not sending their children to school,” Arore said.

He said all school-age children in the primary and secondary schools should be attending school.

Arore said he was disappointed to see school age children roaming around streets to beg.

“It is the responsibility of parents to send their children to schools,” he said.

The sidelined higher education minister said the government had spent millions of kina in educating

children.

“Our children need to be educated to become compatible in this competing world,” he said.

“The free education policy of the government is a golden opportunity for all our children to go to schools.”
