ALL Unitech stakeholders, the government, the OHE, the three Unitech staff associations, students and employees of the university should show their support for Vice-Chancellor Dr Albert Schram.
Minister of Higher Education David Arore did the appropriate thing by suspending the university council and ordered an investigation into abuse of university funding by the council headed by Chancellor Philip Stagg.
This includes the New Zealand government withdrawing its support for the Forestry College after its funding to the university disappeared.
Questions have been raised about contract dealings by the previous vice-chancellor.
I believe Stagg should not be questioning the qualification of the new vice-chancellor.
This is because it is a double-edged sword as the people can also question what qualification Misty Baloiloi had when he became the vice-chancellor 20 years ago.
Apart from a bachelor’s degree, what qualification and managerial experience does Stagg possess to call himself a chancellor?
Revolting students burned the chancellor’s car earlier in the year to demonstrate in their strongest term that the council under Stagg and Baloiloi was no longer welcomed by the students.
The two national staff associations and the SRC should band together and show their support for the new vice-chancellor.
