Arore to address district dropout issues
The National, Tuesday 05th February, 2013
IJIVITARI MP David Arore has signed several memoranda of understanding amounting to almost K4 million which he hopes will address student dropout problems in the district.
The MoUs will provide education opportunities for students in his district for a period of five years.
They are: K1 million for students at the St Margaret School of Nursing; K1 million for the Popondetta teachers’ college; K100,000 for prison training; K250,000 for five UPNG open studies campuses; K100,000 for the Theological Institute, K500,000 for the International Training Institute to train 100 students and K1 million for University of Natural Resources.
Arore, also minister for higher education, said his aim was to remedy the problem of a high level of dropouts and to improve human resources in his district by providing training for about 5,000 school leavers at district level.
He said out of 17,000 students nationwide, only 4,000 students advanced to higher educational institutions throughout the country.
He said it was his duty to cater for the school leavers in the country and increase the level of education for young people because he believed education was a medium of change.
