POLICE officers have been warned to maintain discipline at all times.

Central acting provincial police commander Insp Laimo Asi told officers during a parade that complaints on disciplinary matters against officers would be investigated.

“Illegal roadblocks by auxiliary police officers, drunkenness on duty and illegal use of police vehicles will be a thing of the past (while I am here),” Asi said.

“I will monitor and evaluate the performance of officers from now on.”

Asi was previously the provincial commander for New Ireland.

He was appointed acting commander for Central after the death of former commander, Heni Vagi last month.

“I will be inspecting all police stations in the province to make sure that there are weekly parades and that the roster of all duty officers must be thoroughly checked and monitored to avoid officers not turning up for work.

“We will now have action plans in place so that officers will now know exactly what are their scheduled duties to perform on a weekly and monthly basis.”

Asi said teamwork would be paramount to improve command and control in the Central provincial command.

He is offering a K500 bonus for the officer who makes the most arrests in relation to people drinking  alcohol illegally.

“This is to ensure that alcohol related problems are minimised in the province.”

Among those attending the parade at the Laloki police station, outside Port Moresby, were NCD-Central Commander ACP Jim Andrews, NCD operations superintendent Perou N’Dranou and officials of the central provincial administration.
