A man of Asian origin was shot in an armed robbery of a shop in Gordon, Port Moresby on Saturday.
Boroko police station commander Inspector Brian Kombe confirmed that the victim, who was shot on his chest, was rushed to the hospital but died from the injuries he sustained.
He said the armed gang drove in two vehicles to the Waigani Bulk SCS Trading in Gordon. The men in the first vehicle held up the security guards on duty.
Kombe said second group of men went into the store and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuable items.
He said police were still investigating the hold up.
Kombe said as the robbers were rushing out of the store, one of the suspects fired a shot at the deceased who was an employee of the store.
He said the armed men also stole a pistol from the security guard and drove away.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but died from the injuries inflicted.
The suspects are still at large.
A week earlier, in a similar robbery, a gang held up staff of a butcher shop at the Waigani area as they were closing up.
Meanwhile, Kombe said a lecturer and five students were arrested on Saturday night for breaking the curfew at the University of Papua New Guinea campus.
“The lecturer was released on K300 bail while the five students were held in custody at the Waigani police station.”
