ASPIRING rugby league players in the Unggai area of the Eastern Highlands have been challenged to commit their time to developing their skills and becoming better.
Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allan issued the challenge during the launch of the Unggai rugby league competition at Masumave sports ground on Sunday.
“Rugby league is our national sport, Unggai-Bena district is known for producing some of the finest rugby league players,” he said.
Allan said Kumuls like the late Ifisoe Segeyaro, Stainer Sapu, late Opae Soga and Glen Nami were just some of the products of the district.
He said these players had started off playing local league and had gone on to make a name for themselves.
Allan said players in the league would also have the opportunity to be selected into Goroka Lahanis squad for the 2020 Digicel Cup season. He gave organisers nearly K10,000 to run the competition.
President Ben Wanjack thanked Allan for his support and assured him that the competition would be run well.
