Assault accused refused bail
A man charged with wounding was refused bail by the Waigani Committal Court yesterday because he had escaped from prison and was a suspect in a murder case.
Maimox Samson Taro, from Koloboi in Porgera, Enga, was charged with two counts of wounding.
Prosecuting police officer Sergeant Joseph Sangam informed the court that police had provided a certificate refusing bail for Taro.
Sangam told the court that Taro was also wanted by the police in Enga because he was a suspect in a murder case and an escapee from Baisu jail.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar refused the bail and ordered that Taro be remanded in custody until investigations by the police were completed.
Police alleged that on Aug 14 at Jabiru Street in Erima, Port Moresby, Taro stabbed his wife Melisa Kutato on her right thigh and calf. Kutato received serious injuries and was losing a lot of blood and had to be rushed to hospital.
