A MAN has been fined K500 by the Mt Hagen District Court for assaulting his former brother-in-law.
Mt Hagen District Court Magistrate Betty Jacob found Kenneth Luke, of Lamanda village, in the Wapenamanda district of Enga, guilty of assaulting Tommy Yakas, of Wabag district.
She fined him K500 in default six months’ imprisonment.
Police prosecutor Constable Sam Nili said that on July 11 Luke went to Yakas’ home at around 2am and attacked him while he was asleep with his family.
Luke’s former wife, who he has divorced, used to stay there with her brother.
Luke was arrested by the Mopa villagers and handed over to Hagen police.
Magistrate Jacob told Luke that it was wrong to be armed with an offensive weapon, entering a house while everyone was asleep and attacking someone. She told Luke he had no right to enter the house of his former wife.
She told him that since he was a first offender, the court would only fine him K500.
