PAPUA New Guinea Teachers Association Highlands executive John Mondo is calling on the industrial registrar to revoke an illegal appointment.
Mondo, a primary school teacher, said  registrar Helen Saleu had no powers to appoint a caretaker administrator of the association when suspending secretary general Uguwlubu Mowana last month.
Mondo said that under the constitution of the association, the general secretary was normally appointed by the management committee of the PNGTA for three years. He said Saleu did not comply with the administrative process and procedures before suspending Mowana, which he claimed was in  breach of her position as the industrial registrar. He said the re-appointment of a former employee of PNGTA as a caretaker administrator, replacing Mowana, was suspicious because the former employee had been terminated for allegedly misusing money belonging to the association.
“I want to call on the minister for labour and industrial relations to  investigate Saleu for her involvement in the appointment of a terminated employee whose case was before the national court,” he said.
