THE Malaysian Association of Papua New Guinea (MAPNG) has donated funds from its 19th Malaysian Business Community (MBC) Charity Golf and fundraising dinner to organisations including the Port Moresby General Hospital.
The dinner is an annual event tied in with the association’s golf tournament which aims to help improve the lives of Papua New Guineans.
MBC Charity fundraising chairman Ivan Lu said at the dinner at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby on Saturday that the association would ensure that organisations they helped were accountable. Lu said the dinner raised K910,000.
He said K95, 000 would be given to the Port Moresby General Hospital, while the remaining would be distributed among 19 charity organisations.
“I think it is a very successful event and we are very happy,” he said.
“We have achieved what we expect despite the down turn in the national economy and the harder times faced by business houses.
“All money raised in this year’s charity fundraising event will be allocated to 20 organisations that we entrust to provide services and supports to those in need of assistance and primary healthcare, many of them are dealing with young children.
“For Port Moresby General Hospital, we do not want the funds allocated to be used for general expenses but specifically for certain items and equipment which the hospital needs.”
