THE Security Industry Association has extended the amnesty period for the training of security guards to February 5, 2017.

This is to allow private security firms time to train their security guards. The previous deadline was February 5, 2016 (last Friday).

In a public notice issued last Thursday, the association stated that the training was mandatory and open to any person (non-security guard) wishing to be trained to qualify for a security guard permit and gain employment in any security company or non-security organisation.

The training will be conducted by approved security training companies.

Companies selected for the training are Black Swan International, G4S Secure Solutions Ltd, National Security Training College, OSS-Orogen Ltd and Works Skills Training Academy.

The association said the cost of the training would be met by the trainees, or their employers, or through sponsorship from donor agencies.

“The cost of the security guards training will be set by the approved training companies and not SIA,” the Association said in a notice.

“SIA will be the regulatory body to ensure courses comply with the training standards.”
