THE Papua New Guinea Teachers Association is supporting Education Minister Jimmy Uguro’s stance on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination as voluntary for teachers.
Association general secretary David Numbaming said teachers were educated and could make their own decision whether to get vaccinated.
He said the association would not force any teachers to get the jab.
Uguro confirmed that vaccination was voluntary for teachers.
“The Government is not forcing teachers to be vaccinated, it is up to them to decide,” he said.
“I am doing my job by appealing to our teachers and citizens to do the right thing.
“Importantly, we must follow our own conscience.” Uguro said sometimes, news reporters did not report exactly what was said and confused teachers or maybe teachers were confusing themselves the interpretation.
“Our teachers should not panic, they all must be confident to flow well with the changes,” he said.
“We, teachers, are as role models and can adapt to any changes.
“It is important for teachers to disseminate correct information to the citizens.”
