Association wants education boards to follow proper process

THE PNG Teachers’ Association wants all provincial education boards (PEBs) to follow standard procedures in resolving teachers’ issues.
General-secretary David Numbaming said: “The education advisers and PEB chairmen are well-versed on the correct procedures, laws, policies and rules so teachers must not face problems with leave fares and appointments.”
Numbaming said there had been issues regarding salaries and allowances simply because the PEB chairmen were not abiding by the rules.
As clarified by Teaching Service Commission chairman Samson Wangihomie, Numbaming also emphasised that much of the powers for many provinces had been decentralised to the PEBs with only a few still with the national education board.
“Most of the education advisers and PEB chairmen were former teachers and are in a better position to understand issues and the challenges faced by teachers and should do the right thing for our teachers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Numbaming also urged education officers responsible to allocate funds from the Government’s free education support to schools to do it properly and correctly before school started.
