Athletes, officials happy with facilities
The National, Friday July 10th, 2015
ATHLETES and team officials taking part in the Pacific Games are generally happy with the facilities at the Games Village and other sports venues, according to a survey.
Athletes and officials from the participating countries interviewed by The National this week said the country should be proud of the new and modern facilities.
Teenager Vernon Taylor of the New Zealand weightlifting team said: “The facilities are very good. You guys did a brilliant Games set-up. The Games Village is done really nice. The bathrooms, sleeping rooms and everything are really good. Really enjoying my stay here.”
Nauru’s weightlifting coach Quincy Detenamo, who has been to many international competitions, said: “It’s one of the first-class, top villages that I’ve been to in any Games. Especially this weightlifting stadium is world-class, Olympic-standard stadium.”
Tahiti weightlifting coach IabetaKokoroa said “everything is really good. Marvellous. The food, facilities and transport are all good. I think PNG is doing really good.”
Team Tuvalu head Talavai Iona described the Games Village as excellent.
“This is the second Pacific Games I’ve been to and I think the host country has put up specific facilities just for the Games. I think PNG has done really well. The Games facilities are top class.”
