Athletics comp starts without some technical officials

Athletics at the PNG Games in Kimbe went into full swing yesterday but without some key technical officials.
A source that did not want to be named said that the athletics technical officials are under pressure because of their late arrival in Kimbe and the absence of some officials.
Six key technical officials waited 10 days for their tickets, checking Air Niugini every day and there was no communication from the Games office.
These included the starter, two long distance race officials, PNG’s most experienced jumps official, and call room staff.
In the end no tickets were sent so the competition is being run without these officials, and some team coaches are stepping in to help keep the competition going.
“Trying to get all the events run in three days instead of five is also overloading some of the athletes, especially those running sprints and relays,” the source said last night.”
