POLICE Minister Robert Atiyafa has thanked the security forces and the public for maintaining peace and good order since the Pacific Games began.

“I want to thank citizens beginning with the residents of Port Moresby, the educated community and those from settlements, bus drivers, taxi operators and informal sector people for the hospitality they have so far extended to our visitors,” he said.

“I would like to see that unity and order continue throughout the remaining days and maintained even after the Games.”

The Government committed more than K60 million on security operations for the Games.

“The Government has delivered and we have no excuse if we do not provide the level of security expected,” he said.

“So far, I have not received any complaints apart from one or two from our visiting officials about the fields but that has been taken care of.” Three surveillance balloons with cameras and tracking devices were brought in from Israel for the Games venues.

Atiyafa thanked the National Road Safety Council for managing the flow of traffic.
