ATS settlement in the National Capital District now benefit from a K3.1 million water project.
The project is jointly funded by NCD Governor Powes Parkop, Moresby North-East MP Labi Amaiu and the National Government.
The water project was launched last Friday amid a jubilant crowd from Northern, Milne Bay and Eastern Highland communities.
Northern community representative Rex Dagi said the settlement had been without a proper water supply for the last 19 years.
“We have been crying for water for the last nineteen years and we have finally got what we have been asking for. Successive governments have neglected us and I want to thank the members for what they have done,” he said.
He commended Amaiu as the first MP to listen to their pleas and make the water project a reality.
Amaiu urged the people not to resort to illegal means in obtaining water and look after all Eda Ranu equipment for the project.
“We will bring in water but it is up to you people to see to it that the project is successful,” he said.
“Please adhere to legal means when trying to connect water to your respective homes and do not do illegal connection and destroy pipes that bring in water.”
He said the water project was the first of many projects that he planned to undertake.
He thanked the Prime Minister for his support to the project.
