BASKETBALL administrator Aisi Aua is hoping to revive the code in Kerema this year.
Aua, who is the president of the Kerema Basketball Association, revived the code in 2015 and through 2018 with four successful seasons under his leadership.
Last year he stepped aside due to ill health and advised his executive to conduct a special general meeting to elect a new president but this did not happen.
Aua said last year’s season was aborted because of a lack of action by the executive.
Aua, who is employed by the Bank South Pacific, said now that he had recovered his health, he was keen on restarting the Kerema basketball competition this year.
Aua said he had gotten a positive response from clubs and players and he was confident the new season would be a success.
He said the Kerema Basketball Association would hold an annual general meeting in March to discuss the season.
He said the association had done well to rekindle interest in the sport and hoped this year would the year of rebuilding and making progress.
He appealed to businesses and the provincial government for support to run the new season.
He thanked local businessman Alex Hearo, through Elore Lodge, for his support over the last few seasons.
“Basketball development will get better and better if we consistent corporate and government support now and not just for big events like the PNG Games,” Aua said.
“We all should get our acts together now and not wait but prepare in advance.
“I have nothing to lose, I’m just doing it for the love of junior development and to raise the bar in Kerema.”
Aua said he would affiliate the Kerema Basketball Association to the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea this year.
