AN Australian exploration company donated text and reading books to Mt Hagen Secondary school yesterday in Hagen, Western Highlands.
Quintessential Resource Ltd, developer of Tekam Mining in Kompiam, Enga, gave the 120 boxes of books to the school as part of its community service.
Apart from Western Highlands, the company will donate some books to schools in Enga because that is where it will develop the mine.
Managing director Paige McNeil said the company had a vision to help schools and in other areas once the mine started operations.
She said they would send Tee- shirts and books for schools.
McNeil said this was the first donation by the company to schools and promised it would continue to provide more books.
McNeil, who is a teacher, said education was the only way forward for the country.
She said the company was helping move the nation forward through education.
She said the books had been donated by Australians and that was why the company was helping to transport them into the country.
McNeil returned to Australia yesterday after handing over the books.
School principal Mann Tambil thanked the company for the support, saying it would have cost a lot for the school to buy such books.
Tambil urged students and teachers to look after them so that others could benefit as well.
