THE occasion would be small but it surely would put smiles on the faces of children in remote schools and villages in Chimbu because, for the first time, they will know how it feels to receive gifts specially donated to them by friends in Western Australia.
Thanks to Simbu Children’s Foundation (SCF) Team WA, a 20-foot container filled with toys, clothes and school materials would be leaving the port of Lae for Chimbu on Friday.
It is understood that the key to the container was presented to the SCF president Jimmy Drekore by Team WA coordinator Ivan Mori during SCF’s Christmas Ball last Dec 18, while the container arrived in Lae from WA three weeks ago and was waiting for necessary clearance.
Drekore commended all the families and friends of Team WA for their effort in donating items and meeting the cost for it to be shipped to Lae.
“I want to thank everyone who has gone out of their way for this gesture because it will go a long way for everybody, including the children,” he said.
Drekore said all these items will be delivered to the children in remote villages and schools.
Chimbu Governor Fr John Garia said that such initiatives from the elites and like-minded Chimbus will go a long way and he commended SCF, especially Team WA, for thinking of children in the remote parts of Chimbu.
Drekore said the first destination will be the Karamui area because it is not connected by road to another other place or centre in the province.
