Aussie Rotary governor donates to schools

THE governor of District 9600 of Rotary Clubs, Walter Buchanan, was in Lae last week from Australia to deliver books and sporting gear to schools.
Mr Buchanan and his wife Margaret last Wednesday delivered, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Huon Gulf two 8,000l water tanks to Busu Secondary School.
The goods were received by school principal Betong Bega and his senior staff members.
They had also donated 450 text books and six sets of sports kits that included basketballs, netballs, softballs and footballs as well as sports books.
Several hampers containing “goodies” were also given to the staff members and students.
President of the Rotary Club of Huon Gulf, Cynia Sanchez, past president Rahul Kaula and member Benita Lamasisi and three Rotaract members were all present.
Mrs Sanchez said: “These are all part of the many donations given by the Rotary Club of Huon Gulf.”
Fifty boxes of new books were distributed to Lae schools leading up to and after the book week last month.
Mrs Sanchez said the French Forest Rotary Club in Sydney, through her club, was donating A$1,450 (about K3,290) for a water tank for the Situm Primary School.
Mr Buchanan and his wife returned to Australia last Thursday.
