 GLASGOW: Australia have claimed gold in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and now lead the medal tally with 18 gold.

Australia’s Emma McKeon, Alicia Coutts, Brittany Elmslie and Bronte Barratt clocked a Games record seven minutes, 49.90 seconds ahead of Canada (7:51.67) and England (7:52.45).

Australia have now won the women’s 4x200m relay event at three straight Games.

It marked a third Glasgow gold medal for Games rookie McKeon, and the fourth gold in the pool on day three.

Taylor McKeown won gold in the women’s 200m breaststroke earlier in the session.

The 19-year-old clocked two minutes, 22.36 seconds, ahead of compatriot Sally Hunter (2:23.33) and England’s Molly Renshaw (2:25.00).

Emily Seebohm claimed 100m backstroke gold earlier in the day.

The London Olympic silver medallist clocked a Games record 59.37 seconds ahead of Wales’ Georgia Davies (59.58) and Australia’s Belinda Hocking (59.93).

With two cycling gold and one in shooting, Australia won seven gold medals on day three, shooting to the top of the medal tally. – 7 Sport
