An Australian man who was deported to Papua New Guinea last year is seeking court orders to return to home.
Daniel Frank Charlie, from Torres Strait in Australia, will appear at the National Court in Waigani today before Justice David Cannings for the hearing of his application.
Charlie’s lawyer from the Office of the Public Solicitor told the court last Friday that he was deported by the Australian immigration department in April last year.
He was taken care of since April by the Port Moresby City Mission since.
The court heard that the Port Moresby City Mission decided to withdraw its service to Charlie and he had no place to stay. He is currently sheltered in Gerehu by a friend of his lawyer.
The court was informed that the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) had also decided to look into Charlie’s welfare since then but no instructions were received from its office.
Justice Cannings adjourned the matter to today for all parties to appear and assist the court in ascertaining the status of the immigrant.
