THE Australian government has presented Personal Protection Equipment to the Health Department following a request by the PNG government.
Australia High Commission’s councillor of public policy and health security Bill Robinson presented the equipment during a media briefing on Covid-19 by the Health Department and World Health Organisation (WHO) last Friday. Australia presented 154 boxes of protection equipment to the Health Department to be used by health workers.
The first batch of boxes, a total of 154 at a cost of about A$66,000 (K146,590), included 10,200 water resistant facemasks, 20,000 gloves, 2,000 gowns, more than 5,000 masks and respirators, 1,000 goggles, disposable bed sheets, body bags, shoe covers and scrub gels.
Acting Health secretary Dr Paison Dakulala said PNG was thankful and appreciated the Australian government’s help with the equipment.
“This personal protection equipment will go a long way in scaling up with our workforce who are at the frontline,” he said.
