THE Port Moresby Schools Football Association kicks off tomorrow as soccer enthusiasts strive to find their way into the boys and girls Under-18, U16, U14, U12 and U10 for the Australian tour later this year.
Schools football teams throughout the national capital will kick off from 8am at selected school fields and the Bisini football grounds and to be followed up with a corporate dinner in the evening for fund raising for the Schools Football and the Australian tour.
The Association says this year is an exciting year because of the Australia tour and also the PNG Football Association youth tournament in June of which the Port Moresby Schools Football Association has agreed bid in partnership with the Port Moresby Soccer Association.
“Youth players in the Schools Football Academy and in the National Soccer League team, Southern Strikers, will also strive to be in the PNG U17 and U20 team to the OFC Youth World Cup qualifiers in the Solomon Islands and Tahiti respectively,” association vice-president Wesley Waiwai said.
“We’re also happy to announce that the IEA Schools Football has joined the PMSFA so it will be an exciting season with a lot more schools taking part. We will be identifying more youths to join in our football academy and I therefore call on corporate and individual support for this worthy activity for our children and to support also our corporate dinner.”
The association said PMSFA will be working closely with the PMSA and the PNG Football Association and hope to introduce this concept next year to the other centres as part of the football development pathway.
“So it’s another early wakeup for the parents to get their kids to the soccer every Saturday morning. It’s a fun event and we hope parents can join us also at the fund raising dinner tomorrow evening at the Grand Palace restaurant, RH Gordon,” Waiwai said.
The PMSFA boys and girls competition starts from U6 to U18.
