THE people of Nipa-Kutubu in Southern Highlands are happy with the visit of Australian High Commissioner Bruce Davis.
Davis visited Nipa yesterday with MP Jeffrey Komal and high commission counsellor Suzanne Edgecomde, first-secretary James Butligreg and second-secretary Sam Wade.
He assured school students that Australia would continue to support Papua New Guinea’s education programme.
“Students are the next leaders of this nation and we have to equip them with the knowledge and skills,” Davis said.
“I am pleased to visit the district.
“We will find ways to help, work together and establish long-term partnership.”
Davis said health, infrastructure, law and order and small business were other areas that Australia would look into.
MP and deputy-speaker of Parliament Komal said his district development authority had done much over the past five years but needed strong partnership.
“Seeing is believing,” he told Davis.
“You and your team’s presence in the district is highly appreciated by the people.
“These people are hungry for service.
“The DDA has put up infrastructure in the district but with limited funding, it is unable to complete them.
“As their leader, I have to be honest: I need support.”
