Australian firm to ship cows to PNG

AN Australian company will ship cows to the country and later pay K100 for each when they are slaughtered, according to Agriculture and Livestock Minister John Simon.
A deal was signed between the Livestock Development Corporation (LDC) and the Australian company Taylor Pacific last Friday.
“We will not spend any money. The investor will,” Simon said.
“We have only given them the approval to bring in cows.
“For every cow they bring in, they will pay K100.
“For every cow they kill, they will pay K100.
“So if 2,000 cows are slaughtered, we will get close to K4,000.”
Simon said it would generate revenue for the livestock sector.

  • I think the calculation is incorrect…if 2000 cows are selling for K100.00 each…then the product should be K200,000.00 and not K4000.00 as published…if K4000.00 is the government’s earning who get the other K196,000.00…I assume the good minister John Simon can explain that better…

  • Why would Australian farmers bring in their cows to feed us when we have vast grasslands to farm our own??? Grasses are green all year round with the perfect tropical climate to feed a million cows. Fund our own farmers. Is that rocket science???? How long are going to depend on lamb flaps and beef from Australia and New Zealand?????
