Australian volunteers join district hospital
The National, Tuesday March 25th, 2014
TWO Australian volunteers have joined the health service in Gazelle district, East New Britain, under Australian Volunteers International.
Provincial health adviser Nicholas Larme said the two women joined last month and were employed in the district’s health sector.
One of the volunteers is a nurse at the Kerevat Health Centre. The other is with the district administration. They are on a two-year contract.
Larme said the programme, which began four years ago, had benefited Gazelle district by way of technical assistance.
Larme said it was to strengthen the health system in the district.
He said the Gazelle district administration needed the assistance to improve health services in the district.
Larme said the province still lacked a provincial pharmacist to provide technical advice to the provincial government.
He said there was a need for a health information analyst who could collect raw data to speed up processes.
Meanwhile, a medical transit store in Kokopo is almost complete.
