Australians have the right to be strict
The National, Tuesday 20th November, 2012
I REFER to your report “PM: Aussies get tough on visas” (Nov 15) about certain politicians and citizens who have taken the opportunity to invest and make money for themselves.
How would you feel if you see someone whom you have elected to serve you is actually serving himself using your money?
This is totally ridiculous.
I would like to congratulate Australia for taking stringent measures when issuing visas to some of our so-called bureaucrats.
It shows that Australia is not taking the issue of investments by PNG nationals using public funds lightly.
More should be done to address this issue.
What should PNG do?
Should we just sit by and watch more of this happen without doing anything?
I am happy the Task Force Sweep team is investigating and revealing this rogue activity.
However, are there steps to solve this problem?
There must be solutions to address it, such as:
l Developing a legislative framework that focuses on outsourcing investments using local funds;
l Establishing a MoU with Australia that deals with investments using misappropriated public monies; and
l Monitoring of PNG nationals in Australia who are likely to get involved in such activity.
It is time we take responsible actions to solve our own problems, rather than just commenting on it.
