THE Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) will have geological maps for Goilala in Central ready by December this year, manager geological mapping Dulcie Saroa says.

The maps were part of a regional

geological mapping project that

geologists from MRA were carrying out.

It launched maps for Wau and Biaru last Friday.

“What we did was we have done Wau and Biaru now and our current projects for this year, there are three map sheets that we are working on and that will be delivered,” Saroa said.

“We expect to go out for the Goilala field work end of this month and we should have the map out by end of this year, in December.

“We tried to give a finer details on the geology, so we mapped it down to 100,000 scale.”

Mining Minister Byron Chan said MRA would continue its 1:100,000 scale mapping programmes in the Goilala area.

“This project will see the release of possibly another two map sheets perhaps by the beginning of the 2016,” Chan said in a statement.

“The compilation of maps at this scale will be an annual programme until all areas have been covered.

“Running concurrently with the geological mapping will be the geochemical sampling programmes.

“Where applicable, ground geophysics datasets will be acquired to complement the geology.

“All these datasets will, from now on, be part and parcel of the new map sheets that will be released by MRA.”
