Authority plans to launch youth council

YOUTH development councils will be established this year through a partnership between the National Youth development authority (NYDA) and district development authorities (DDAs).
Kikori MP Soroi Eoe, said this was to pool resources together in getting youths across the country organised to partake in development programmes initiated by the government.
“Due to limitation in resources by NYDA to solely fund the DYDCs in every district, the ideal way to roll out the programme was to partner with DDAs so that districts take ownership of the initiative,” Eoe said.
He said NYDA or the Department for Community Development and Religion could not fund individual youth groups or any interest group for that matter.
“We are exploring partnership opportunities with wider stakeholders so that any intervention on youth programmes is well coordinated.”
Eoe urged all youth programme stakeholders in the country to work together in close consultation with NYDA to consolidate ongoing efforts to reach out.
“Let us not point fingers at NYDA or Department for Community Development and Religion for any shortfalls as our budgets are not sufficient,” he said.
