Authority wants vehicles properly inspected
All vehicles should be properly inspected before licences are issued, Road Transport Authority (RTA) chairman Melvin Yalapan says.
He said RTA officers were tasked with the job of carrying out thorough checks before licences were issued.
All vehicles, private and public transport, should be inspected before they are allowed on the road, Yalapan said.
“The officers have to bring the vehicles to a certified workshop for proper inspections and once cleared by a mechanical engineer, they can issue the licence.”
He said this is what the RTA needed to do, but if they did not do that, then something was wrong.
Yalapan said all workshops should also be properly inspected and certified “before we issue an operating licence”.
He said every workshop should have the necessary equipment for inspecting and fixing faulty vehicles.
