Awards investiture set for April

 THE 2016 PNG New Year’s Honours and Awards investiture is set to take place next month in Port Moresby, the Office of the Governor-General says. 

National Honours and Awards Secretariat Secretary Tipo Vuatha said the honours and investiture ceremony would take place on April 28 at Government House.

Eighty-nine people from the public and private sectors, including Central Governor Kila Haoda MP, have been recognised for their services to the country.

The highest recognition of Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (Chief) has been awarded to Catholic Bishop Chris Blouin and Lucas Roika for their 45 years of service each to their communities. 

Blouin was recognised for his services as a Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill  missionary priest through his particular attention to the care of disadvantaged people in Morobe for 45 years. He was Bishop of Lae for eight years. 

Roika was recognised for his services to the community through his leadership role for 45 years in the socio-economic and political development of Western Highlands in various capacities, including as the premier and chairman of the province. Haoda, Catholic priests Don Grant and Lino Pedercini and Paul Undi Nand were awarded the Companion of the Order of the Star of Melanesia (CSM). Haoda was recognised for his services to commerce and business development with communities in West New Britain and Central and for his current leadership role as Governor of.

The other categories in this year’s honours are Officer of the Order of Logohu, Member of the Order of Logohu, the Logohu Medal, Cross of Medical Service Medal, Distinguished Military Service Medal, Distinguished Police Service Medal, Meritorious Emergency Service Medal, Meritorious Public Service Medal, and Meritorious Community Service Medal.
