THE SP Sports Awards were launched yesterday by the three main stakeholders SP Brewery, PNG Olympic Committee and PNG Sports Foundation.
This will be the 27th awards and the public was encouraged to nominate individuals or groups of their choice for the 11 categories.
SP Brewery corporate affairs manager John Nilkare said the launch of the sports awards signified the continuation of relationships between them and the two sporting organisations (PNGOC and PNGSF).
“SP Brewery has been around for a long time and has contributed to sports and the SP Sports Awards is one significant sporting event that has been delivered with partnership with PNGOC and PNGSF,” Nilkare said.
“SP Brewery would also want to encourage all its partners and sports men and women to be good ambassadors of sports and promote SP Brewery social messages of responsible drinking.”
PNG Olympic Committee president Sir John Dawanincura acknowledged SP Brewery and other supporting sponsors for their continuous support towards the sports awards.
Sir John 2018 had been another fantastic year of sports with such events like the Golf Coast Commonwealth Games, the Argentina Youth Olympic Games, Rugby League Pacific test, the Prime Ministers’ 13, the PNG Kumuls two-game series against the England Knights, the OFC women’s championship and Fiba Oceania U15 basketball championships.
Dawanincura urged all members of the public and those within the sporting fraternity to back the awards again this year and nominate who they thought deserved recognition for their efforts.
For more information on nominations, the public can contact the PNGOC on 323 0114 or 325 1449 or email: [email protected].
The nomination forms can be collected at the PNGOC office in Port Moresby or downloaded from the website: www.pngolympic.org.
