SEVERAL major road projects that have not been satisfactorily completed will be investigated by the Works Department.
Works Minister Francis Awesa said yesterday that the investigation would include the Lae-Nadzab road resealing and drainage project, which was carried out by Dekenai Constructions and cost K3 million.
He said another K2 million was given to the Civil Aviation Authority for an access road connecting Nadzab Airport to the Highlands Highway.
Awesa said this in response to a question from deputy opposition leader and Bulolo MP Sam Basil.
He also said that a team of works engineers would be dispatched to Enga to assess the road sealing from Wapenamanda to Wabag and the Wabag to Laiagam road after a claim by Wabag MP Robert Ganim that low quality and substandard material was used to seal the road.
Awesa said he was aware of reports that inferior material was used for the road sealing and his department’s engineers would investigate and correct the problem.
The minister urged construction companies provide quality work if they wanted to get contracts as the government was focusing on improving the infrastructure throughout the country.
He said companies with bad reputations would not be considered for future contracts.
