WABAG town will become a model urban centre, Works Minister Francis Awesa has assured the people of Enga.

He said the national government would assist the Enga provincial government to develop the town with necessary infrastructure and facilities.

Speaking to more than 3,000 people in Wabag last Friday during the ground breaking ceremony of the town roads upgrading and sealing project, Awesa said the government was committed to assisting Enga achieve its development objectives.

He said the recent approval of K322 million by the national executive council towards the construction of a new Enga Provincial Hospital, K2 million to Enga cultural centre, K1 million to Enga Teachers’ College, K5 million to Wapenamanda Airport fencing, the approval of Hela Open Technical College and funding of other impact projects  within the past six months showed that the government was serious about assisting the people of Enga in changing their province to be equal with other developed provinces.

Awesa said he was happy that the Enga government had a town development plan with a proper sewerage system, water and road works which many provincial capitals and districts in the country lacked.

“Although Enga was last to become a province, the leadership of the Grand Chief, Governor Peter Ipatas has been so visionary that the province is now a leader in education,”

he said.
