B’ball announces squad

 PAPUA New Guinea Basketball has selected its final 15-member squads for the men’s and women’s sides yesterday.

The Basketball Federation PNG executive, led by president Nick Daroa and his committee, will endorse the final 12 players after consultation with the coaching staff.

The Port Moresby-based men’s were advised to train as a team however, they had gone back to training with their respective clubs.

Recently the training squad members played a friendly match with the Papuan Blacks, comprising under-18 players that won the gold medal in Cairns, Australia.

The men’s are playing in competitions in Port Moresby and Australia.

Two of the women’s squad —  Peninah Javapo and Gabby Walk — play in Australia as well.

The men’s team is dominated by Port Moresby-based players, with Muri brothers Dia, Apia and Purari, Gabriel Elavo, Moses Lune, Robert Kave, Peter Davani, Wally Parapa, Mika Loko (Lae), Sibona Kala, Wright brothers Lloyd and Liam, Illiwa Baldwin, Aaron Farmer and Martineng Leahy (Australia).

The women’s side has Betty Angula, Mary Elavo Jr, Opa Eko, Julie Anne Diro, Rosa Kairi, Karo Lelai, Marca Muri, Emily Koivi, Diane Hani (Pom), Louisa Wallace, Josie Sam (Lae), Nester Sape (Madang), Peninah Javapo, Gabby Walk (Australia).
