PLAYERS in the Coconut Bar Darts competition in Los Negros local level government on Manus were privileged to have former Melbourne Storm and Kumul Marcus Bai visit them last Saturday.
Bai’s visit was arranged by the club executives to carry out sports awareness to the players and the local community.
Although darts is a game Bai was not involved in, he was happy to be there for the occasion in which he stressed the importance of sports in general.
Bai spoke of how he overcame challenges and achieved his goals and appealed to all players to do the same if they wanted to become successful in sports.
He said the road to achieve set goals was not easy and for darts players’ to become professional players in life they have to sacrifice, demonstrate commitment, dedication and most importantly have respect for players, coaches, executives and the community they represented.
The players, including councillors George Sei Riuriu and Benny Dipon Naringel were overwhelmed by Bai’s encouragement and thanked him for his time to visit the local community and talk to the players, which was encouraging.
For many it was the first time to meet the former NRL star and they were happy to meet and listen to him.
Meanwhile, Coconut Bar as the major sponsor of the local competition presented K2000 sponsorship to help the competition while senior community member Martin Poesan gave K500 as his sponsorship to the competition.
Treasurer Ian Joseph in receiving the money thanked Coconut Bar and Poesan for their generosity in sponsorship.
Joseph said they would put the money to good use to ensure that the competition was managed well.
