Bail date set for Wobiro, Gumoi, May
The National, Tuesday September 8th, 2015
WESTERN Governor Ati Wobiro and two others facing similar fraud-related charges over nearly K8 million from the Fly River government have been set for bail review in the National Court on Sept 21.
Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika yesterday adjourned their cases to allow defence and State lawyers to liaise and agree on the defendants’ district court bails and orders.
Sir Gibbs said if the lawyers could agree and give consent to the bail orders, then the bails would be reviewed and converted to National Court bails.
“The district court bails still continue until Sept 21 when they will be reviewed,” Sir Gibbs said.
Wobiro and provincial administrator Dr Modowa Gumoi and Fly Care boss Norman Carl May are facing charges of conspiracy and misappropriation of K7,900,000 belonging to the Fly River Provincial Government in 2012.
Gumoi and Wobiro are also facing additional charges of abuse of office.
Their cases will be set for trial after the bail review.
Meanwhile, Komo-Margarima MP Francis Potape’s case has been adjourned to tomorrow before Justice Panuel Mogish.
Potape, who was convicted on fraud-related charges, will have a re-trial after a Supreme Court order following his successful judicial review application.
