TWO men from Gulf alleged to have raped a 13-year-old have been allowed bail by a Waigani committal court magistrate yesterday.

Sebastian Mai and Timmy Nare were in police custody and appeared for their first mention when the counsel representing them made an application for bail.

Counsel Jeffrey Kolowe from the Office of the Public Solicitor asked the court for bail, saying that his clients would not interfere with the victim or the witnesses.

Kolowe told the court that the co-accused guarantors were willing to pay a bail amount of K500 each.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told court that there were fresh allegations and he would set the matter to a later date to allow police to conduct investigations.

Bidar ordered a K300 bail each and adjourned the case to Aug 26.

Mai, 30, and Nare, 27, both from Kamukanu village, Malalawa in Gulf, were charged with rape of a girl on July 6 at the Ranukuru settlement in Port Moresby.
