PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has welcomed the appointment of Andrew Baing as the new chairman of Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd.
The appointment is effective for a three-year term.
Baing replaces Sir Moi Avei, who retired from the board last October. O’Neill said Baing brought to the board substantial experience in Government and business.
“Andrew Baing is a very experienced statesman, having held numerous ministerial positions over many years, including deputy prime minister.”
“Outside of politics, he has honed his business acumen, and will be a strong leader for Kumul Petroleum,” he said.
“This is essential at this critical time for the oil and gas sector in Papua New Guinea and our market position in an evolving global economy.
“The oil and gas industry is entering the next phase of development in our country, and this will lead to ongoing growth for Kumul Petroleum.
“As Kumul Petroleum becomes bigger and stronger, managing this process must be carried out
in an extremely sensitive and highly strategic manner.
“Andrew Baing is the right man to lead and guide our nation’s petroleum company through this growth and expansion, returning greater benefits for the people of Papua New Guinea.”
