Baki: Team work key to improving services

POLICE Commissioner Gari Baki officially closed the Police Commissioner’s Conference on a high note last Friday encouraging officers of the Royal PNG Police Constabulary to work as a team to improve its service delivery.
Baki said personal ambitions and aspirations could be destructive in an organisation and the constabulary could only move forward if there was good leadership and team work.
He said the highlight of the conference was the presentation by MK Vamanan Nair on police leadership in a commercial perspective, adding that it set the scene and helped participants understand what leadership was and what was expected of them as leaders.
“As I shared in my opening address, leaders inspire and motivate people,” Nair said.
“Good leaders micro-manage and delegate responsibilities. Good leaders are role models and share good examples.
“Good leaders communicate with their subordinated listen to them and then make decisions,”
Baki said the constabulary was an organisation that had not really progressed within the last 13 years because of political instability and encouraged every officer to be good leaders of the force and to work together to move the constabulary forward.
