AZZIMBA heartlands’ Hillside Balas let loose in the second half of Sunday’s main A grade match in Gerehu touch to defeat CPL Broncos 12-2.
After a deadlocked 2-2 in the opening half, Balas returned in the second stanza with more venom, crossing over for their first try through an intercept by halfback Vele Rawali, at  the 14th minute mark.
Two minutes from fulltime, flyer Alex Kavanamur re-gathered a loose ball just outside his own try line and ran the length of the field before handing a pass over to centre Eddy Elias for the clincher.
Balas veteran, Toa Sepa, collected the extras with a penalty in the first half and one conversion in the second, while Broncos centre, Oki Marai, kicked one penalty for his side’s only point.
However, it was a family battle in Saturday’s main feature with Kesu Spiders’ Nico Dom and brother David combining well for their side’s first half onslaught, before Kesu Eagles Langer brothers, Wanpis, Yarl and Komna combined to draw the match 12-12 in the second half.
In the first half, Nico opened the score sheet with an 80m try and followed it up in the 15th minute with his second, converted by David.
The Langer brothers returned in the second half and scored a try each to level the scores 12-12, and missed their chance wrap the match after missing several conversion attempts.
